Mike Bell has welcomed news that a pedestrian crossing will be installed in Weston's Upper Bristol Road

North Somerset Council's West Area Committee last night agreed to recommend that a new zebra crossing be installed on Upper Bristol Road above Ashcombe Park in Weston-super-Mare.

The decision was welcomed by local Councillor Mike Bell. He commented: "Residents and local Councillors have been campaigning for several years for a pedestrian crossing on Upper Bristol Road. I am delighted that our efforts have finally paid off.

"Thousands of people use Ashcombe Park every year and many cross the busy Upper Bristol Road from the Forest Drive area and Milton Brow. Once the crossing is installed young and old alike will be able to cross and use the facilities in safety.

"Weston Town Council will soon commence consultations on an improved play area in the upper part of Ashcombe Park and this will attract even more visitors to the area."

The final decision on the new crossing will be made by the Executive Member for Strategic Planning.
